How FPL's residential A/C rebate works
FPL's Residential HVAC program pays a flat $200 per qualifying unit, delivered as an itemized credit on the installing contractor's invoice. There are no forms to mail and no waiting on a check — but the requirements are strict, and missing one disqualifies the rebate.
FPL territory covers most of the Florida coastline we serve, including the Sarasota–Bradenton–Venice corridor and — since FPL absorbed Gulf Power — Northwest Florida communities like Milton and Navarre.
- - A new A/C or heat pump system purchase including both indoor and outdoor units
- - SEER2 rating of 15.2 or higher
- - Residential home installation in FPL service territory
- - Installation completed by an FPL-approved Participating Independent Contractor (PIC) — chosen before you buy
The step most homeowners miss
FPL itself flags one mistake above all others: hiring a contractor first and asking about the rebate second. The rebate only exists if the installer is an FPL-approved PIC at the time of installation. Before you sign any A/C replacement quote in FPL territory, ask directly whether the installer participates in FPL's program and whether your proposed system meets the SEER2 15.2 threshold — we'll answer both questions plainly on your estimate.
In Cape Coral? You're probably on LCEC
Cape Coral and North Fort Myers are served by LCEC (Lee County Electric Cooperative), not FPL. As of July 2026, LCEC does not publish an A/C-replacement rebate comparable to FPL's — its published programs focus on energy-saving guidance, usage analysis, and bill-payment assistance (Power to Share, LIHEAP, EHEAP). Cooperative offerings change, so check LCEC's current programs before you buy, and ask us what applies at your address.
Other Florida utilities
If your home is served by a different utility — for example Duke Energy Florida or TECO in neighboring counties — check that utility's residential rebate pages directly, since programs, amounts, and contractor requirements differ by utility and change without much notice. Tell us who your electric provider is and we'll help you sort out what actually applies.

Frequently Asked Questions
Do I have to apply for the FPL rebate?
No. If the system qualifies (SEER2 15.2+, full system) and the installer is an FPL-approved Participating Independent Contractor, the $200 appears as a credit on your installation invoice automatically. The one thing you control is verifying PIC participation before you buy.
Does FPL rebate heat pump water heaters or mini-splits?
No. FPL's published residential HVAC rebate covers central A/C and heat pump system replacements only — it does not extend to heat pump water heaters or mini-split systems. For water-heater savings, Florida's coming HEAR program (up to $1,750 for heat pump water heaters, income-qualified) is the one to watch.
I'm in Milton — does the FPL rebate apply in the Panhandle?
Generally yes. FPL's service territory now includes Northwest Florida (the former Gulf Power area), so Milton and Navarre homes on FPL electric service can qualify under the same rules: SEER2 15.2+, complete system, PIC installer. Confirm your utility from your electric bill and we'll take it from there.
