Why is my Florida room so much hotter than the rest of the house?
Three stacked causes: glass walls admit far more solar heat than insulated walls; the room usually sits at the end of the duct system with one small (or no) supply register; and the extra humidity load from all that glass makes the same temperature feel hotter. The original central system was almost never sized with the converted room in the load calculation, so the thermostat in the hallway is satisfied long before the Florida room is comfortable.
Should I extend my ductwork or add a ductless mini-split for a Florida room?
It depends on what the room needs and what your system can spare. Extending ducts only works when the central system has spare capacity and the run can be short and sealed — otherwise you rob air from the rest of the house. A dedicated ductless head cools and dehumidifies the room independently, zones it off when unused, and does not touch the central system. Will a bigger central AC fix a hot sunroom?
